Cast a Gluten-Free Kitchen Spell with Mickey and…What's that Other Wizard's Name?

“It’s a very old story…a legend about a sorcerer who had an apprentice…he was a little bit too bright, because he started practicing some of the boss’s best magic tricks before learning how to control them.” – the Narrator, Fantasia

In Fantasia, Mickey, the sorcerer’s apprentice, loses control over the spell he initiates and watches as the dancing brooms nearly flood the chamber. The scenario may seem familiar to people with celiacbrooms disease. Starting new recipes full of strange ingredients is like trying to enchant broomsticks – it may turn out a little differently than the picture in the book. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to be both the sorcerer and the apprentice and clean up the mess when your magical baking pan explodes.

From One Holiday to the Next: GF Hanukkah

Welcome back, everybody! Did you have a nice Thanksgiving weekend? Have you finished up your gluten-free leftovers, or are you still working on that last bit of turkey?

I don’t want to give anyone whiplash – especially those of us still basking in the tryptophan glow – but we’re quickly approaching another food-centric holiday, and information is in order.

Wednesday at sundown marks the start of Hanukkah. However you want to spell it, it’s early this year. It’s also one of my favorites, not least because the celebration involves fried food. The traditional recipes are either naturally gluten-free, or easy to adapt; whether or not you’re Jewish, you might want to give them a try.

Yet ANOTHER Thanksgiving Dilemma for Celiacs: Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce is my favorite Thanksgiving food.

It used to be sweet potato pie (with marshmallows on top, natch). Not sure when exactly I traded the one for the other, but these days the thing I look forward to most is a bowl of my mom’s secret-recipe cranberry sauce.

It’s a study in contradictions: sweet but tart but nutty, crisp but reassuringly still sauce-like. Some people like to have pumpkin pie for their morning-after Thanksgiving breakfast, but I prefer a big scoop of cranberry sauce with yogurt.
