According to Wells Enterprises, who make Blue Bunny ice cream, the product was packed in the wrong carton. While the lid correctly identifies the contents as Super Chunky Cookie Dough ice cream, the packaging is for Peanut Butter Panic and therefore does not declare wheat as an ingredient.
The lot number of the affected ice cream is 10009, and the Best Used By date is January 10, 2012, according to this press release. The mismatched cartons have been shipped to Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee, Florida, Wisconsin, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Texas.
Luckily, this is a case of improper packaging only and the formulation of the ice cream itself has not changed. Avoiding the recalled ice cream should, then, be fairly simple: if the lid and the carton don’t match, don’t eat it. Either return it to the place of purchase or feed it to someone who likes cookie dough ice cream.
