Shout-Out Your Favorite Local Gluten-Free Bakery!

Yum! If you know where to find them...

The other day I was standing in a recessed doorway, chowing down on a gluten-free, vegan pizza pocket from Gluuteny, a Pittsburgh-based gluten-free bakery. It was delicious.

Not too long before, I was melting butter to pan-fry some pumpkin bread from Delectable Edibles, based in the Orlando area. It, too, was delicious — reminded me of childhood mornings, when my mom used to fry up blueberry muffins.

And then my brother brought home some goodies from the Curtis Street Bakers, which can only be gotten if you’re in the Boston area. Guess what? Delicious. Blondies. YUM.

All of which is to say: there are a LOT of smaller bakeries out there, making a LOT of tasty food. How is a girl to find them all?

Today’s post is less a post than a request: will you tell us your favorite only-in-town, only gluten-free spot?

For all the recipes I post, my favorite gluten-free treats are usually the ones someone else bakes for me. I suspect I’m not alone in this: ingredients are expensive, time is at a premium, and the willpower to not-eat three dozen cookies before they go bad…well let’s just say that wouldn’t be my superpower.

It seems like every week, a new gluten-free bakery opens up somewhere in the country. I’ve already listed some of my favorites, but I’m always on the lookout for somewhere new. What are your local faves?

  1. Ok, if we’re limiting ourselves to only dedicated gluten free facilities there’s:

Fallon’s Gluten Free Bake Shop (they only do dairy free on pre-order)
    339 Crows Mill Road
    Fords, NJ 08863

By-The-Way Bakery (menu is completely dairy free too)
    574 Warburton Avenue
    Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706

Tu-lu (maybe 30% is dairy free as well)
    338 East 11th Street
    New York, NY 10003

Bare Naked Bakery & Cafe (they star their dairy free items on the menu)
    2572 Merrick Rd.
    Bellmore, NY 11710

I also have a List of Gluten Free Bakeries/Restaurants in NJ on my website. Just scroll down about half way to get to the bakeries. These facilities (with the exception of Fallon’s listed above) are not dedicated however.

  2. Haley’s Corner Bakery in Kent, WA cannot be beat! It totally surpasses the other 5 gf bakeries we have in the Seattle area.

  3. Sinfully Gluten Free in Centerville, Ohio. Fabulous baked goods and the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had. I have to drive about 90 miles to get there but it’s worth it. I make the trip a few times a year.

  4. Green Goodies by Tiffany
    5840 N Classes Blvd
    OKC, OK 73118

The very best gf cupcakes I’ve ever eaten! Everything organic–dairy free also available, coffee and frozen yogurt, too. Lovely place near downtown Oklahoma City. Yummy, moist. Thinking of them now. . .

  5. Babycakes NYC – they have locations in New York City, Downtown Los Angeles, and Orlando. They have the freshest donuts, muffins and cakes. I have only been to the Downtown Los Angeles – they are Gluten-Free, Wheat-Free, Soy-Free, Casein-Free, Egg Free, Vegan, and Kosher. They also deliver!!!

  7. I live about 3 miles from (and pass by every day on the way to work) my favorite GF bakery/eatery/grocer – Sherry Lynn’s Gluten Free Store in Latham, NY. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! And I highly recommend a visit if you’re in our neighborhood!

  8. A and J Bakery in Cranston, RI has nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, wheat-free, soy-free, sesame-free & tree nut free products. I love the chocolate eclairs and the angel food cake. They also carry a selection of cookies, pies, biscotti and flavored breads (banana, pumpkin…), other holiday specialty foods (cannolis, zepolles…), and many other products. Plus the selection is still growing. They also deliver!

  9. Molly’s Gluten Free Bakery in Pewaukee, Wisconsin has the best gluten free bread I’ve found. Much better than Udi’s, which seems to be the best of what’s available at the grocery stores. Large variety of treats available daily, and I believe they ship. So glad to have found this little treasure…

  10. New gluten and wheat free bakery in Orlando area. Youth baker and artist with severe wheat allergy and celiac disease makes beautiful custom cakes, cupcakes, and original art creations!
