When I lived in Toronto back in 2005, I fell in love with Tim Hortons. I couldn’t get enough of their Ice Capps and Timbits. I wasn’t gluten-free back then so I was able to enjoy all the gluten-filled goodies they had to offer!
I haven’t eaten at Tim Hortons since being diagnosed with celiac disease so I was very excited to read that they have recently introduced a gluten-free item to their menu, a coconut macaroon! The Macaroon is certified through the Canadian Celiac Association Certification Program. The CCA’s trademark assures Canadians with celiac disease and gluten intolerance that products are safe to consume.
The Canadian Celiac Association estimates that around 0.75% of Canadians are afflicted with celiac disease and now these celiacs can return to Tim Hortons for a hot drink and a gluten-free macaroon. Great news!
“Given the growing number of people who have celiac disease and gluten intolerance, we’re making it just a little bit easier for friends and families to enjoy eating together at our restaurants.” says Donna Finelli, Vice President Marketing, Food and Merchandise at Tim Hortons.
For now the chain is offering just this one gluten-free item but hopefully if it’s popular, it will encourage the introduction of more options in the near future.
The Gluten-Free Coconut Macaroon is sold in a pre-wrapped two-piece package to avoid cross contamination. It is available now at Tim Hortons across Canada for $1.29.
Have you tried it? Is it delicious?
