For busy households like mine, snack mixes that you can trust are gluten-free are an absolute must for the pantry. Paleo People has a snack line of Fruit & Nut Cluster snacks that are not only certified gluten-free but also grain-free, sodium-free, soy-free, dairy-free, non GMO, and made from all natural ingredients.
These snacks are available in four flavors: Cacao Nut, Apple Crisp, Cappuccino Crunch and Banana Nut Crunch. While often compared to a granola, these cluster snacks are a bit more moist and chewy, though there is still a distinctive crunch.
The Cacao Nut is perfect for a chocoholic. The raw cacao powder is lightly dusted on all the almonds, raisins, pumpkin seeds and various other nuts and adds the robust but not overly sweet taste of the cocoa nibs mixed in. If you add this to yogurt it really brings out the chocolate flavor.
As I am a big time banana fan (as long as the banana taste is authentic) The Banana Nut Crunch was a big hit with me. The banana chips are made solely from bananas and coconut oil with the only added sugar in the whole package coming from honey and some apple juice concentrate on the dried cranberries. The nuts and raisins coupled with the banana chips satisfies the craving I often get for banana bread.
I am looking forward to trying the Apple Crisp and Cappuccino Crunch flavors. The Cappuccino Crunch has large pieces of coffee beans and as a coffee addict, this flavor seems right up my alley.
While I most often find myself snacking on the clusters straight out of the bag by themselves, I have also found that these cluster snacks make a great added crunch to a salad as well as a really awesome topping for my blueberry and peach crumbles. While I am not a big cereal person, I have also heard several success stories about using these snack clusters as a cereal with choice of milk and fresh fruit added on top.
Each resealable bag costs $5-6 at retail locations like Vitamin Shoppes or specialty grocers or on amazon.com.
