Westin Playa Conchal | Triumph Dining Travel

Westin Playa Conchal Costa RicaI love to travel. My perspective of traveling has changed a bit, though, since my study abroad days when we’d subsist for the day on bread and cheese that we could carry with us. I had a stomachache every day on that trip, and now I know why. Needing to stay gluten free, even while traveling, is a challenge. Add to that a language barrier or a new country, and traveling gluten-free can be downright scary.

I didn’t know quite what to expect on my recent trip to Costa Rica. I’d been before but that was 10 years ago and only at the beginning of my gluten-free lifestyle. This time I was fairly confident that I would be able to live on fresh fruit and rice if necessary.

In the land of soy sauce and rice wine vinegar, you could never be too sure that the hibachi had been cleaned enough and the thought of a gluten-free menu at the saimin shop down the street was ludicrous. However, with the tourists came the food and gluten-free dining options are finally prominent around the islands.

As with everywhere, some restaurants are more accommodating than others. Some tell you how you can modify menu options to meet a basic gluten-free diet while others boast about their unique gluten-free offerings. Continue reading “Gluten Free in Hawaii | Triumph Dining”

Chambelland Boulangerie Take 2 | Triumph Dining

There were a few inadvertent errors in our blog post about Chambelland Boulangerie  the gluten-free bakery in Paris.

First and foremost is that Chambelland Boulangerie does not work with rye flour, only gluten-free flours that they get from their own mill, Moulin Chambelland. They are also the only ones who work with this flour.

Lastly, Chambelland Boulangerie is lead by both Nathaniel Doboin and Thomas Teffri-Chambelland.

Please stop by the bakery the next time you are in Paris. It is located at 1 rue Marche PopincourtParisFrance.

Gluten Free Backpacking | Triumph Dining

115781-425x282-Backpacking_dinnerWith plenty more summer weekends coming up, one of my favorite ways to relax, hang out with friends, and fit in a bit of exercise is to go camping and backpacking. Sometimes when we go, we will get a campsite or cabin which allows us to go car campingand bring an assortment of different gluten-free foods for meals and snacks. However when we go backpacking, it is important to only carry essentials in order to not get weighed down; it is a delicate balance between not carrying enough and carrying the right amount of food to keep you full and energized.
