Re: Thom Hartmann and a GF fish “joint” in Portland OR. Probably, the restaurant is Hawthorne’s Fish House east of the river or its sister restaurant, Corbett’s Fish House, west of the river. Tons of non-GF folks eat there because they have the best damm fish and chips in the world; being GF is just a plus for folks who need GF food, as most of the customers are not GF’ers. You pick what kind of fish and they GF “bread” them to order very thinly so you actually get to taste the fish. The chips can be sweet potato fries….yummy! So, if you want fish and chips and are within 3 hours of Portland, hop in the car and go there. Now. Today. For lunch and supper.

Love your newsletters, tips receipes, etc. I’m traveling to Austin,TX later this year and was wondering if there are any GF resttaurants besides the chains?

Bruce – thanks for the info on teh fish joints! They sound incredible and I always love it when the non GF’ers as you say, enjoy gluten-free food!

Cheryl – Wildwood Arts Cafe in Austin is a gluten-free, dairy-free bakery/restaurant. They do buy gluten bread for non gf customers so you need to let the staff no you can only have gluten-free items. We found the baked goods dry and not very good, except for the pumpkin muffins which were incredible! The lemon bars are a huge seller but there were none left when we arrived for lunch.
