Triumph Dining Cards are carefully designed to convey as much relevant information as possible in a concise manner that can be practically used by a restaurant staff. It takes the average chef just over 1 minute to read and understand them. And, the chefs and staff we've spoken with appreciate the level of detail and say it allows them to prepare safe food with certainty.
However, the cards alone cannot guarantee a gluten-free meal. They are best used as a tool in conjunction with appropriate oral communication from you. With the cards, you will find it substantially easier to obtain gluten-free meals. That said, it's impossible for the cards to account for every possible contingency. You should carefully read and fully understand their contents and limitations before putting the cards to use.
Below are several tips to help you get the most out of your new Triumph Dining Cards:
- Present your card to the hostess before sitting. Some restaurants may simply refuse to accommodate us; you'll want to know that before you sit down. Also, nicer restaurants are generally better equipped for individualized service and attention to special needs.
- Understand the layout of the cards, so you can guide the staff and answer questions. The native language text closely tracks the English translation and follows the flow of "Can't Eat, Please Check, Can Eat."
- Choose dishes that are likely gluten free, or easily modified. When in doubt, ask the staff for suggestions.
- Frequent owner-operated restaurants wherever possible. At large chains, the food is usually heavily processed (increasing risk), the staff is less knowledgeable, and getting specialized attention is unlikely.
- Avoid peak rush hours, especially on your first trip to a restaurant. The less crowded a restaurant, the more specialized attention you'll receive.
- Be patient and work with people. People have different initial reactions to us, and sometimes it takes them time (and many questions) to really understand our diet. Keep a positive attitude and be courteous. Remember, the staff is helping you, so please treat them accordingly.
- Tip generously for good service. The staff will remember you and continue to make special accommodations for you in the future.
